In Sevilla on June 26th 2009 the Dolomites were declared a United Nations World Heritage Site. The nine Dolomite mountain groups, spanning 231,000 hectares, are spread over five provinces: Trento, Bolzano, Belluno, Pordenone and Udine.

We Ladins are celebrating this wonderful event. The Dolomites are our mountains!

We have to protect them, so that they will keep their historical and natural originality.

The UNESCO recognized not only the beauty of these mountains, but also the way, they were interpreted and loved. This is the real “patrimony” of the Dolomites: they are not just a static monument, but a landscape where human beings live, work, act, grow up their families and plan the future, always in accord with the nature.

The singular contrasts of the colours and forms differs the Dolomites from the other mountains.

We always have been fascinated from the wonderful colour that the mountains assume at the sunrise and at the sunset.

The name “Dolomites” was given to these mountains in 1789-1790 after the young French Déodat de Dolomieu, who discovered the calcareous rock of the once called “Pallid Mountains”. After scientists had analyzed the stones, they gave them the name “dolomia”, in honour of the finder.
