The  Kostners have always been an adventurous family. Josef (*1872), one of the first mountain guides in the Upper Badia valley and a pioneer of tourism, purchased the guesthouse "To The Chapel" in 1912, soon after returning from various expeditions to the Caucasus and Turkestan.     His son,  Cesco, was the first member of the national Alpine skiing team to come from the Upper Badia valley. He was an Italian giant slalom and downhill champion and founded the local skiing school  in 1934.        Josef's  granddaughter, Renate Kostner, and her husband, Josef Pizzinini, have made many innovative developments since 1969. They built the new Hotel Cappella with sensitivity and passion, restructuring it in 2000 and transforming it into a luxurious and unprecedented centre of well-being  and art.
