Get together in the delightful "Trenkerstube"

Our traditional Ladin restaurant, opened in 2008, is dedicated to Luis Trenker, architect, mountain guide, skiing instructor, writer, actor and director. Open during the summer months only, the "Trenkerstube" is perfect for a relaxing dinner with friends, birthday parties and other celebrations.

Luis Trenker was born on 4 October 1892 in Ortisei and studied architecture in Graz. The main theme of Trenker's work was a distinctive and idealised image of the alpine mountain world. In 1935, Trenker won an award at the Venice International Film Festival for his film "Der verlorene Sohn" (The Prodigal Son). During the First World War (1914-1918), Trenker fought side-by-side with Josef Kostner, Renate Kostner Pizzinini's grandfather, and his brother Franz Kostner on the Col di Lana mountain. His famous book "Berge in Flammen" (Mountains on Fire) was based upon his war experiences and subsequently made into a successful film. In his role as an architect, Trenker built the house opposite the "Garni Pcëi" hotel for Josef Kostner. During his studies, Trenker lived in Graz; he later lived in Munich and Bolzano, where he died on 12 April 1990, aged 97.

You can find out more about the life and work of Luis Trenker in the Trenker Museum in Ortisei.
