Artistic gourmet treats in the "Rollerstube"
Spoil yourself with gourmet delights à la carte in the charming rustic setting of our elegant "Rollerstube". Beautiful paintings by Professor Roller of 1893 adorn the walls of this cosy room and lend it its unique charm. Together with his friends Gustav Mahler and Max Reinhard, Roller successfully brought to life the famous Salzburg Festival and the Austrian Work Federation, among other subjects.
Roller's paintings in the restaurant are reminiscent of traditional Ladin stories and legends from our region and all feature a brief caption in Ladin by Professor Jan Batista Alton.
Professor Alfred Roller was president of the Vienna Secession, long-standing director of the School of Arts and Crafts in Vienna and also revolutionised stage design; for many years, he was also chief designer at the Vienna Opera in close collaboration with Gustav Mahler.
The famous poet and historian Tita Alton from Colfosco was a key figure in the development of Ladin literature. Born in 1845, Alton was a professor of classical languages in Trento, Vienna and Prague. In 1899, he was appointed Headmaster of the grammar school in the town of Rovereto. He conducted research into his mother tongue and recorded traditional Ladin legends. In Alta Badia two schools have been named after him.
