Tourist Trailblazers

The hotel founder Josef Kostner was an adventurer and a mountain guide: He laid the foundation for the development of tourism in Alta Badia, and his descendants are still actively involved today.

Soon after returning from an adventurous expedition through the Caucasus and Turkestan in 1912, Josef Kostner purchased the "Gasthof zur Kapelle" guesthouse, an old 15th Century farmhouse, in Colfosco. As, among other occupations, a mountain guide, the art and nature lover was a pioneer of tourism in Alta Badia. His son Cesco achieved great success as the first member of the national Alpine skiing team to come from the Alta Badia valley, and together with his friend Mutschlechner, he founded in 1934 the first ski school in Colfosco. Josef's other son Thomas, on the other hand, took over the running of the guesthouse and later passed on this venerable family tradition to his daughter Renata in 1962. Together with her husband, Josef Pizzinini, Renata built the new Hotel Cappella in 1969, and in 2000, transformed the hotel into a luxurious haven of art and well-being, with much passion and exquisite attention to detail. One of a kind, today the hotel stands out for its unique decor and valuable collection of art.

In 2013 Carlo Pizzinini, the son of Renata and Josef, and his wife Marion Demetz took over the conduction of the Hotel. Carlo and Marion have two daughters, Nives and Noemi.

Right from the start Carlo and Marion showed great interest and passion for running the House. This is also attributable to the numerous improvements and great investments they have faced in recent years.
The first attention was given in 2013 to the renovation of the reception, which now looks like an artwork in the heart of the House. In 2014, the fantastic "Suite Cappella" was born, unique in its style and the flagship of the House.
In the autumn of 2015, the entire wellness center was renovated, adding a heated outdoor pool, a relaxation room with incredible view on the Sella Group and two further saunas. The entire wellness center as well as the treatment and massage rooms have undergone a total makeover. At the same time, a cinema room was created as well as a large, equipped playing room for children and the fitness room with huge windows that make a real immersion in nature possible.

After about 3 years, in the spring of 2018, the bar and the “Roller Stube” restaurant room were completely renovated, and a new lounge bar was created. Uniqueness reigns supreme in these rooms as there is no lack of artistic and personalized details.

The most important and most significant works were done in 2020, where improvements were numerous and continued for the longest period of all, having started in April and then ending 9 months later in December. After these important changes the Hotel became the 5-star luxury hotel it is now.

The Hotel Cappella now presents itself with all rooms completely renovated and enlarged, equipped with natural wood flooring and all with a private balcony overlooking the mountains or towards Colfosco. Several rooms and suites offer a private infrared sauna with high humidity directly in the room.
Between the floors the Guests will find lounge areas where to enjoy the fantastic view of the Sella Group mountains in total tranquillity.
The outdoor relaxation area of the wellness center has been expanded by over 1,300 m² with a large lawn and artificial lake, where in summer it is possible to enjoy the idyllic view on comfortable deck chairs.
A large multi-storey underground car park was built with capacity for all the cars of Guests and collaborators, equipped with a lift for returning to the Hotel and 4 charging stations for electric vehicles.

And last but not least, one of the dining rooms has been refurbished, making it a comfortable and relaxing room. The entrance to the main dining room is dedicated to the 40 years of travel of Carlo's parents who had the possibility and passion to visit over 80 countries on all continents. The Guests will admire a walkway of showcases containing indigenous and original objects, very difficult to see nowadays.
