Ambience with history

Some stories are told, others take shape – in wood, in earth, in metal, in time.

At Hotel Cappella, tradition, art, and nature have long been intertwined, deeply rooted in generations of hospitality. This place has grown, evolved, yet remained true to its origins.

Three extraordinary works of art, unearthed from the very ground beneath us, tell the story of this deep connection: a root, symbolizing origins; a tree trunk, a silent witness to thousands of years; and a sculpture that reflects the bond between humans and their roots. These are more than just artworks – they are an invitation to pause, trace the echoes of the past, and rediscover the bond with nature.

The Rooting by Aron Demetz, 2013

The root as a symbol of origin

At the reception, you are welcomed by an impressive bronze sculpture by Aron Demetz, an artist from Val Gardena. This powerful work represents the deep connection between this place, nature, and the Kostner/Pizzinini family. It symbolizes stability, an enduring bond with the earth, and the land and history upon which generations have built.

For this piece, Aron Demetz carefully selected roots from the forests of South Tyrol, casting them into 300 kg of bronze. The sculpture, composed of 270 meticulously welded elements, seamlessly fuses nature and art. The root stands as a symbol of strength from the past, support in the present, and a foundation for the future.

“Mesa Larix” by Andreas Kondrak, 2020

The Tree of Time

Buried twelve meters underground and concealed beneath a landslide, an ancient tree trunk lay undisturbed for over 3,000 years. It had taken root in an era when humanity was forging bronze, only to be rediscovered and revived by artist Andreas Mayr Kondrak.

Today, the “Mesa Larix” stands as a magnificent larchwood table in the hotel’s bar, stretching over four meters. Its rings whisper the passage of centuries—witnessing storms, the relentless flow of time, and the ever-changing world around it. It remains a bridge to the earth, to history, to all that has come before, and to all that is yet to unfold.

“Heimat” by Aron Demetz, 2013

The man and his roots

Aron Demetz’s “Heimat” (Homeland) is a tribute to the deep and unbreakable bond between humans and their origins. It captures the essence of belonging—to a place that shapes us, nurtures us, and gives us the strength to grow. Like a tree that sinks its roots deep into the earth for stability, we, too, remain intrinsically connected to where we come from.

“Heimat” invites us to reflect on our own journey, on the forces that sustain and strengthen us. It reminds us that life unfolds in light and shadow, that each experience leaves its mark—like the rings of a tree, recording the passage of time. Past and future are intertwined, and it is our roots that give us balance as we continue to grow.

The Tree of Life

A message in every room

Every room in the hotel tells a story of connection between past and present. Aron Demetz has intricately carved the essence of the tree of life into the wood, a meticulous process that took twelve hours for each piece. Each engraving is a tribute to the deep bond between humanity and nature, capturing the sense of peace it brings.

Like us, a tree grows in both light and shadow, drawing strength from its roots while bearing the marks of time. These works are more than just decorative elements—they are an invitation to pause, reflect, and embrace the awareness that our roots sustain us, that time is a precious gift, and that nature is our constant companion.

At Hotel Cappella, you become part of this story. Immerse yourself in its spirit – deeply rooted in time and space.
